Looking for a Worldpay alternative?
Worldpay is one of the largest acquirers in the country and processes an enormous share of UK card payments. Headline debit rates can look very competitive, and for high-volume merchants they often are.
What businesses ask us to check is the total: the monthly terminal charge, the difference between the debit and credit rates, and any service charges that sit alongside them. Our pricing is deliberately flat — free terminal, no rental, 0.85% blended on everything.
Worldpay published pricing vs our 0.85% blended
| Worldpay | Shift4 | |
|---|---|---|
| Debit card rate | 0.75% | 0.85% blended |
| Credit card rate | 1.50% | 0.85% blended |
| Monthly rental | £17.50 | £0 |
| Authorisation fee | None published | None |
| Card machine cost | Included with rental | £0 |
| Payouts | Next working day | Next working day, including Saturdays |
Our rate is 0.85% blended across debit, credit, Amex, Apple Pay and Google Pay, with £0 monthly fees and no charge for the machine. Worldpay figures above are their published rates; a blended comparison assumes a typical 60% debit and 40% credit split.
What switching involves
Worldpay agreements are usually set up with a defined term for the terminal and the merchant services, so the first job is establishing your dates. Once you know them, the decision is simply whether the saving outweighs anything owed for leaving early.
The move itself is standard: a new merchant account is underwritten, a terminal is delivered, and you change over on a day that suits your trading week rather than one dictated by a contract end.
Contract-end considerations
Ask for your contract end date and notice period in writing. Larger acquirers commonly require notice before a term ends, and missing that window can roll you into another period.
If your renewal is months away, we will note the date and come back to you nearer the time rather than pressing you to pay to leave.
